A visit to Haridwar, situated on the banks of the sacred river Ganga
is one of the most spiritually enriching experience for any Hindu.
Now this experience can be made even more wonderful for Mohyals as
they have their own 'Mohyal Ashram' to boast of.
We
had gone to Haridwar to complete religious rites. After doing that
and meeting our family pandit (who incidentally showed me the signatures
of my fore-fathers upto 10 generations dating back almost 400 years!),
we were debating whether to stay at Mohyal Ashram or at one of the
Ashrams we had stayed previously. We decided to first visit Mohyal
Ashram. Upon visiting there, there was no doubt left in our mind as
to where to stay.
Situated
on the road from Haridwar to Rishikesh, the Ashram is an architectural
beauty. It boasts of 42 double-bed rooms & 8 suites. A standard
room costs Rs.150/- for mohyals & Rs.300/- for others. The suite
costs Rs.300/- for mohyals & Rs.600/- for others. The Ashram is
divided into 3 areas - A central block contains the meditation hall
& 'bhojanalay'. The 2 blocks on each side contain the living quarters.
Near the entrance is a stupa with seven sides. Each side contains
the name of the Mohyal clan along with their originating rishi. The
dome shaped structures of each block adds to the temple like feeling
of the place.
Mohyal Ashram is managed by Lt.Col.(Retd.) M.L.Mehta(Dutta). He devotes
his entire day in improving & developing the Ashram. We met him
the next day in the morning. He told us that a school is going to
built behind the Ashram, the work for which is about to start.
The staff - Manager Mr. Srivastava & attendant Mr. Narender were
very courteous & looked after us well. The rooms are comparable
with any good hotel. We decided to have dinner at the Ashram in the
night. We were served 'Satvik' food in the night. The food was well-made
& the service was excellent.
Over-all it was a great experience staying here. After visiting the
Ashram, one can say with confidence - 'Proud to be a Mohyal'.
